Henk provided an update on the sedimentological work he has been doing on the core we collected from the Yagour Plateau back in 2019, with a poster presentation to the Quaternary Research Association ADM 2021.
Since the fieldtrip, the core has undergone multiple sedimentological analyses including (but not limited to) XRF scanning and grain size analysis, as well as being radiocarbon dated at ANSTO.
The work provides new insights into the local and regional environmental and climate changes throughout the Holocene and late glacial period, with the core age spanning some 13,000 years.
The sedimentological work allows a picture to be built of the development of the lake and wetland site, which can be linked to major climate events, and human activity. A reoccurring pattern of erosion and input of weathered materials, followed by increased organic development is observed.
